Leadon Timber Frames Ulster Minor club Hurling Shield final
Eoghan Ruadh Dungannon (Tyrone) 0-11 Sean Mac Cumhaill’s (Donegal) 0-4
The minor hurlers of Eoghan Ruadh continued the club’s recent fine run of form as they saw off the challenge of Donegal side Mac Cumhaill’s to claim the Ulster Minor Hurling Shield. Inspired by the display of Cormac Mc Erlean the Tyrone side were worthy winners as they claimed the Shield title by a seven point margin.
Weather conditions made things difficult for good hurling with driving rain and a slippery surface. However with Mc Erlean in imperious form the Tyrone champions settled to the challenge and score by score and play by play they established a gap between them and their Donegal opponents.
Mac Cumhaill’s played wind assisted in the first half and Dylan Patton opened the scoring in the 9th minute from a free. McErlean pointed a free six minutes later and in the 24thminute responded to Rory Doherty’s point to make it 0-2 each with half time just minutes away.
During those closing minutes of the first period Eoghan Ruadh moved in front with points from Mc Erlean and Christopher Gildernew.
The second half opened with an unbroken run of six points from McErlean, three from play and three from frees, to put Eoghan Ruadh into an unassailable position leading 0-10 to 0-2 by the midway point of the half.
Sean Mac Cumhaill’s did manage to add a brace of Dylan Patton points from play but there was no stopping Eoghan Ruadh as they eased to a 0-11 to 0-4 win with Aodhan Molloy getting the final score of the contest.
Eoghan Ruadh will now progress to play Derry champions Lavey in next Friday’s Cup semi-final. That game throws in at 12pm while two hours later the second Cup semi-final features Bredagh and Glenariffe-Glenravel. The winners going through to the Cup final on New Year’s Eve.
