Tattyreagh are through to the semi finals of the LCC Tyrone Intermediate Championship but only after a real battle with Beragh at Garvaghey on Friday night. The teams were level on seven occasions during the match but it was Tattyreagh’s ability to convert their chances late in the game that eventually saw them home winning by two on a final score of 1-9 to 0-10.

The Tatts began well and early points from James Darcy  and Joe Cartin saw them lead 0-2 to no score after eight minutes. With both sets of defenders on top scoring chances were hard to come by. In a low scoring first half Beragh hit three points between the thirteenth and eighteenth minutes to move 0-3 to 0-2 ahead following a converted Oisin Donnelly free for the Red Knights and points from play courtesy of Declan Mc Cann and Niall Owens.

A fine point from the outside of Robert Porter’s boot drew Tattyreagh level on twenty minutes. Gareth Mimnagh pointed to put the Tatts in front again before Aaron Owens scored for Beragh to level the game for the third time.

With six minutes of the first half remaining Tattyreagh landed the only goal of the game after a strong run from Johnny Harkin drew the Beragh defence and allowed him to pass the ball across the front of the goal where Joe Cartin was waiting to finish it to the net. The Tatts however failed to build on that score and Beragh finished the first half strongly adding three points in the closing minutes of the half, courtesy of Oisin Donnelly (2) and Callum Corrigan, to go in at the break tied 1-4 to 0-7.

Once again defences were on top in the second half and Damian Meenagh, Ben Mc Sorley, Cathal Owens and Seamus Grant worked hard to curb the Tattyreagh threat. The Tatts defence was again at their uncompromising best with Eoghan Murray, Peadar Mullan, Andrew Allen and Declan Gallagher outstanding.

Scores and scoring chances were hard to come by in the second half with both sides adding three points apiece between the thirty first and the fifty first minutes. Ben Mc Sorley, Niall Owens and Callum Corrigan pointed for Beragh while James Darcy (2) and Johnny Harkin converted chances for Tattyreagh. The most telling aspect of the second half was the failure of both sides to capitalise on some excellent scoring chances as the wides tally mounted for the two teams.

However with time running out and extra time looking a real possibility James Darcy showed considerable composure to clip over a brace of points to put his side two in front. Beragh did have chances to tie the game but they either sailed narrowly wide or dropped short into goalkeeper Colin Mimnagh’s grateful hands.

In the end Tattyreagh just about deserved their 1-9 to 0 -10 win and with it a place in the semi finals.

Scorers: Tattyreagh- James Darcy 0-5, Joe Cartin 1-1  Johnny Harkin 0-1, Robert Porter 0-1, Gareth Mimnagh 0-1

Beragh- Oisin Donnelly 0-3, Niall Owens 0-2, Declan Mc Cann 0-1, Aaron Owens 0-1, Ben Mc Sorley 0-1, Callum Corrigan 0-2
