Tattyreagh have reached the Junior championship final for the second year running after winning a gripping encounter with Owen Roes at Healy Park on Friday night. It was a first defeat of the season for league champions Owen Roes and Tattyreagh will now face Clogher in the decider.

Tattyreagh led 0-7 to 0-4 at the end of the opening quarter with Colin Harkin, Gareth Mimnagh, Johnny Harkin and James Darcy among their points, Gerard McShane, Seamus Dooher and Cathal McShane on target for Owen Roes. The league champions then hit four points on the trot from Cathal McShane and Dooher to lead 0-8 to 0-7 at the short whistle.

A Ryan McShane “45” stretched Owen Roes advantage to two points on the restart but Johnny Harkin responded for Tattyreagh before Mimnagh blasted in a brilliant 35th minute goal via the underside of the crossbar. Robert Porter and Darcy helped the Tatts to go four clear before Tyrone star McShane got a superb 42nd minute goal.

Tattyreagh wing half back Peadar Mullan had a goal chance shortly afterwards but his shot hit the post. Moments later Owen Roes were awarded a penalty but Cathal McShane’s spot kick cannoned off the right hand post.  Ryan McShane then saved well from Mullan before a Darcy brace either side of a fine Joe Cartin point edged Tattyreagh five in front. McShane and Eoin McGinn swapped points before Darcy had the final say with his 7th of the night as it finished 1-16 to 1-10. Tattyreagh finished with fourteen men after substitute Duncan Hyndman picked up a second yellow card in injury time.
