The long wait for Tattyreagh finally came to an end at Carrickmore on Sunday afternoon when they were crowned Junior championship winners thanks to a deserved 2-11 to 2-4 success over a gallant Clogher side.

Team Captain Colin Harkin delivered an emotional speech at the end as he remembered Pat Darcy and Dom Earley who had both sadly passed away during 2017 as the St.Patricks went one better than last season. It was a title win achieved in style with all but one of their points coming from play. Tattyreagh led 1-7 to 0-2 with twenty minutes played thanks to points from Johnny Harkin, Robert Porter, James Darcy, Gareth Mimnagh and Colin Harkin as well as a well taken Chris McCarroll goal following a sublime Darcy pass. Fergal McKenna had scored both Clogher points from frees but just before the break team Captain Sean McCaffrey gave the Eire Ogs some degree of hope when he fired low to the net.

A five point interval deficit was reduced to just two only four minutes into the second period when a Marc McConnell 42m free sailed all the way to the net. Johnny Harkin responded for Tattyreagh with a point but that score was quickly cancelled out by a brilliant effort from Clogher centre half back Conor Shields. Jarleth McDonagh and Colin Harkin had Tattyreagh points but with time ticking away Michael McCaughey kept Clogher in the hunt. With the game deep into injury time Tattyreagh keeper Niall Keyes nailed a long range free before Darcy put the icing on the cake with a goal after good approach play from Mimnagh.
