Tattyreagh Extend Season After Championship Win

Tattyreagh and Derrytresk went into Sunday afternoon’s championship clash hoping to put their indifferent league form behind them while also making it through to the last eight in the Junior Championship.

This was a real championship encounter with both teams serving up some very competitive and at times physical football.  Tattyreagh made the better start and led by five points after eight minutes with scores from Ronan Collins, Collie Mimnagh, Johnny Harkin, Aidan Martin and Keelan Mc Donagh. Derrytresk eventually broke their duck but the Tatts pushed on and added three further points courtesy of Harkin, Collins and John Mc Aleer to lead 0-8 to 0-1.

Derrytresk were in danger of being out of the contest before half time but they shook off their lethargy and added four points to give themselves a chance in a wind assisted second half. Points from Cathal O’Neill (4) and Oran Hughes gave their team hope but it was Tattyreagh who finished the half the stronger hitting 1-4 juts before the break.Collie Mimnagh, Harkin, Corey Armstrong and Ronan Collins added points to their tally while just on the stroke of half time John Mc Aleer hit the net for Tattyreagh to send the teams in at the break with the Tatts lading 1-12 to 0-5.

Derrytresk were much improved after the break but with Johnny Harkin leading the way Tattyreagh matched them score for score . Mullan and Collins swapped points with Cathal O’Neill and Oran Hughes but the Hill Men just could not get the scores close enough to really put the pressure on the Tatts. Niall Gavin did hit the net with nine points remaining on the clock but it was Tattyreagh who finished with two late points from Harkin and Mc Donagh to finish the game winners on a score line of 1-17 to 1-9.
