Fiona Armstrong Memorial Shield

St Patrick’s GAC Tattyreagh was the venue for the annual Fiona Armstrong Memorial Shield football competition for schools in the area. The day itself proved perfect in terms of weather, ensuring that the children were able to produce high levels of skill throughout the morning.

There were teams from Roscavey PS, Our Lady of Lourdes PS Greencastle, St Patrick’s PS Newtownstewart, St Dympna’s PS Dromore, along with host school Sacred Heart PS Tattyreagh each of whom gave a very good account of themselves.

In the end, the final saw two fine teams from the Newtownstewart and Dromore schools lock horns. Not surprisingly, the first half of the final proved a tight and cagey affair, but on the restart two quick-fire goals from hat-trick hero Joshua McNulty proved the difference as Newtownstewart gained a lead they were not prepared to surrender.

After the final whistle, jubilant St Patrick’s captain Jude Gallagher was presented with the Fiona Armstrong Memorial Shield amidst great celebrations from his team-mates.

St Dympna’s Dromore received something in the way of consolation when the elegant Ronan McGuire was presented with the trophy for Player of the Tournament for his fine performances throughout the day.
