Tyrone manager Mickey Harte has called three new players into the County senior panel ahead of the 2018 campaign. Brendan Burns, Ciaran McLaughlin and Michael McKernan are the players in question and all three are defenders.

Burns was outstanding as in this season’s club championship as surprise packets Pomeroy made it all the way to the semi-finals. The Plunketts accounted for Killyclogher and Clonoe before losing narrowly to Errigal Ciaran and Burns more than held his own when man marking Mark Bradley, PJ Lavery and Peter Harte. His younger brother Frank was called into the senior panel in 2016.

McKernan played full back for the County U21 side this year as Tyrone took eventually winners Donegal to a replay in the first round. He was a key figure in the Coalisland defence that reached the league final two weeks ago.

McLaughlin recently won a second senior championship medal with Omagh and his stock continues to rise after another superb campaign as the St.Endas won the O’Neill Cup for a 9th time.

Three senior members of the panel, Sean Cavanagh, Joe McMahon and Justin McMahon all retired from Inter County duty in 2017 while another member of the squad, Greencastle attacker Cahir McCullagh, as opted out for next season as he is travelling to Australia.
