Tyrone Ladies made it three Ulster Intermediate titles in a row at Brewster Park on Sunday following a 6-22 to 1-7 win over Down. Indeed had Tyrone shown a more ruthless side to their play they could easily have added four or five more goals to their total.

These teams had already met in the semi final when Tyrone won comfortably and the big question for Gerry Moane and his players was would complacency impact on their performance.

Right from the start it was clear that would not be the case. Early points from Maria Canavan and Chloe Mc Caffrey plus a fine goal from Emma Jane Gervin gave the Red Hands the perfect start.

With Emma Brennan and Neamh Woods driving their team forward at every opportunity Tyrone soon began to build a lead. Gemma Begley, Grainne Rafferty and Chloe Mc Caffrey found the net while Niamh Hughes and Slaine Mc Carroll also added to the points tally.

Tyrone reached the break leading 4-11 to 0-3 and well on their way to another Ulster title.

Down did improve after the break with Kyla Trainor causing considerable difficulties for the champions defence. However Tyrone had more quality where it was required and greater strength in depth. Niamh O’Neill, Aisling O’Kane, Christianne Hunter and Emma Hegarty all made significant contributions to the cause as Tyrone won comfortably on a final score of 6-22 to 1-07. Their second half goals were both fine finishes. Player of the match Emma Brennan with a piledriver and Maria Canavan’s flick to the net after being well set up by team captain Neamh Woods.

Tyrone can feel well pleased with the performance and the result but they know tougher tests lie ahead.
