Tír Eoghain U12 Go-Games Football Guidance

General Rules:
1. Children must have fun, enjoy themselves and have good time etc
2. Every U12 child in Tír Eoghain must have the opportunity to play meaningful games in an informal, safe and enjoyable environment. Mentors and everyone concerned must abide by the attached GAA Guidance: Our Games Our Code – Code of Best Practice in Youth Sport when working with underage players.
Referees:
It is the responsibility of the host club to provide the referee(s). Try to organise referees in advance of U12 Go-Games fixture and appraise them of the rules below.
Playing Rules:
- Before and after the game players line up and shake hands with opposing players and referee. Play commences with a throw-in in the middle of the field.
- A defender may advance 5m for a kick out.
- ‘Two Touch’ Rule applies – players are restricted to one bounce and one toe tap or two toe taps per possession.
- Points only
- Person fouled takes free (not the club sharp shooter unless that player is fouled)
- Side line ball – person nearest ball when it goes out takes it
- Over carrying – again if appropriate nearest person from opposing team takes free kick
- When a defender plays the ball over his/her own end line, the other team are awarded a free kick from the 20 metres from ground/hand
§ Teams can be 7 a side, 8 a side, 9 a side or 10 a side. No more than 11 a side permitted
§ Playing Area 90m x 40-50m (2/3 Playing Areas fit on 1 standard pitch).
§ Clubs may play across main field thus ensuring 3 games at once and still using recommended playing area
§ 4 defenders, 2 midfielders and 4 attackers. (NO GOALKEEPERS)
§ A, B (& C) teams – no substitutes. All players to be playing for the full duration of games.
§ Portable Goal posts
§ Cones/skull caps to line out pitches
§ Size 4 footballs – one placed behind either goal and one in play.
First Quarter (10 minutes). – Play above rules
Second Quarter (10 minutes). Mentors could rotate the players positions (ie backs to defence, defence to midfield and midfield to forwards)
Third Quarter (10 minutes) Mentors could ask ALL players to use their right foot only. Again mentors if they wish could use this opportunity to rotate the players’ positions again (ie backs to defence, defence to midfield and midfield to forwards)
Fourth Quarter (10 minutes) Mentors could ask ALL players to use their left foot only. Again mentors if they wish could use this opportunity to rotate the players’ positions again (ie forwards to defence, defence to midfield and midfield to forwards)
