O’Neill’s ACL Division Three Play-Offs

Fintona and Drumquin will meet in the second phase of the divisional three play-offs following wins earlier today, writes Damien Donnelly.

Drumquin got the better of Brackaville by 2-9 to 0-4 at the Tones base, although the closing scoreline does not tell the whole tale.

It was only 0-3 to 0-2 to Drumquin at half-time and their keeper Colm McFall saved a Mickey McGeary penalty on the stroke of the interval whistle.

Brackaville went a point up shortly after the restart through Paddy Early and Paddy Gervin but Eamon Teague arrived on as sub for Drumquin and made a decisive impact.

James Winters and Teague both notched goals, with Teague also among the second half point providers alongside the likes of Barry Gormley and Niall McAlynn as the Tones pulled away on the scoreboard.

Fintona, meantime, got going to good effect in the first quarter in their play-off at home to Clogher, Paraic Kelly and Mark Kelly netting for the Pearses as they won 2-8 to 0-6.

Clogher lagged behind 2-1 to 0-3 at the break, Ciaran Shields their sole score supplier in that opening half.

The home team did enough to keep ahead with Aaron McCarney landing some well-judged frees, Brian McElroy, Dermot McCaffrey and Shields posting decent scores.

Clogher lost Sean Doherty and Paul Sharkey on second yellow cards in the last quarter but by then Fintona were well on their way to that Drumquin date.
