Tyrone Grade 3 Under 14 Championship Final

Strabane Sigersons 3-6
Trillick St Macartan’s 3-9

Sigersons Under 14 Boys narrowly lost out to Trillick in the Tyrone Grade 3 Championship final at Marius McHugh Memorial Park, Castlederg.

The Strabane boys were bidding for a remarkable treble of titles having already won the Grade 2 Féile and the Grade 3 League titles but a hard working Trillick side denied them on this occasion with a deserving win for the underdogs St Macartan’s.

Trillick raced into an early lead with two fine points from the boot of Ryan Gray before Adamh Bonnar opened the account for Strabane. Tiernan Allen then increased the Trillick lead and on ten minutes Ryan Gray got the first of his side’s three goals when he slotted home from a penalty kick.
Tom McDermott reduced the deficit for Strabane but further points from Gray and Michael Gallagher increased the Trillick lead but just on the stroke of half time Strabane reduced the arrears with team captain Conor McGettigan finding the Trillick net.

Half-time score; Strabane 1-2, Trillick 1-5

Sigersons got the first point of the second half via Eoin Arbuckle but again the Trillick boys asserted their dominance with Jamie Kelly sending over a point from play followed by a fine goal from the boot of James Garrity. Ryan Gray then added two points one from play and one from a free kick as Trillick took control.

Strabane responded with a good point from play via Tom McDermott but again James Garrity found the Strabane net to leave the Trillick boys with a ten point lead with around fifteen minutes to play.

Tom McDermott fired over another point from play for Strabane and then the game quickly changed in favour of Strabane. Conor McGettigan and Nathan McGrath both added quick goals to reduce the deficit to just three points and it was game on in the closing minutes.

Strabane did create one or two late goal chances with Adamh Bonnar unlucky to see his fisted effort just go wide and whilst Conor McGettigan for Sigersons and Ryan Gray for St Macartan’s traded late points the day belonged to Trillick and it was Gray who accepted the Championship Shield from Tyrone C.C.C. representative Eunan Lindsay to the joy and delight of the Trillick players, management and supporters.

Trillick: Ryan Gray (1-6), James Garrity (2-0), Tiernan Allen (0-1), Michael Gallagher (0-1) and Jamie Kelly (0-1).
Strabane: Conor McGettigan (2-1), Nathan McGrath (1-0), Tom McDermott (0-3), Eoin Arbuckle (0-1) and Adamh Bonner (0-1).
