Tyrone SFC Semi Final
Trillick 0-17 Dungannon 0-7
A second half blitz from reigning county champions Trillick in Omagh on Friday night eased the Reds into a second county final in a row. They dominated the second period hitting the Clarkes for 0-12 to 0-3 in a spell of football that will make others take note that they are gunning for something that hasn’t been achieved by any team since 2005.
Liam Gray opened the scoring in the 4th minute with James Garrity adding the first of four points for himself two minutes later. The Clarkes got on the scoresheet in the 12th minute when Paul Donaghy was fouled and scored a free from the 13 metre line. A second Paul Donaghy free in the 13th minute levelled the sides before Richie Donnelly hammered one over from 30 yards on the quarter hour mark.
A Ryan Gray point from play after a neat team move and a Lee Brennan 45 meant the the Reds had a three point lead by the 24th minute but two Paul Donaghy frees in the 25th and 27th minute left Dungannon a single point down at the short whistle. Half Time – Trillick 0-5 Dungannon 0-4
Dungannon might well have taken the lead in the 31st minute when a Paul Donaghy sideline ball bounced all the way through the Trillick defence and off the crossbar before Trillick brought the ball to safety. A Ciaran Barker 54 in the 32nd minute levelled the game at 0-5 each but that was as good as it got for Dungannon.
Three quick fire points, two from the impressive James Garrity and a fisted point from Seanie O’Donnell eased Trillick out to a three point lead by the 41st minute. A Paul Donaghy free in the 44th dropped the deficit to two again but Trillick weren’t finished. Six points made up of scores from Colm Garrity, Richie Donnelly, Lee Brennan, one from play and two frees, and Ciaran Daly hammered home their dominance.
It wasn’t until the 58th minute when Kevin Barker point that Dungannon got their first point from play. Trillick finished strong with James Garrity, Lee Brennan and Liam Gray all firing over to leave the Reds in a 5th county decider inside the last ten years.
Final Score – Trillick 0-17 Dungannon 0-7
Referee – Cathal Bell (Killeeshil)
