Ulster Club Junior Final
Trillick V Lavey
Saturday 1pm Killyclogher
Trillick and Lavey meet in today’s junior final and both teams have enjoyed some good performances in the campaign to date.
Trillick have been impressive. Young county star Emma Brennan alongside youngsters Cathleen Kelly, Katie Murphy and Dearbhlie Gallagher have slotted in comfortably alongside some of the older hands including skipper Cathy Donnelly, Nuala Kelly, Edel Grey and Ciara Brogan. Under the guidance of Don Goodwin and Iggy Gallagher the Reds have shown both ability and quality.
Lavey, who aremanaged by Stephen Hughes, Conor Martin and Chris Conroy, have emerged successfully from a tough Cavan championship. It’s been down to hard work and the drive of the entire group although it has been an emotional roller coaster for Lavey with the sad passing last year of Annette Coen.
The Cavan girls beat St Pauls in the Ulster quarter final before a spirited display against Scotstown booked a final berth. Collette Donahoe played a key part in that tie with midfield pair Suzanne Cusack and Shannon O’Reilly turning in a massive shift and their contribution this weekend could well prove crucial.
Trillick have no injury worries after wins over Derrygonnelly and Faughanvale. Indded both teams look well prepared and focused ahead of this decider. Winning the junior championship in Ulster is so difficult. It could well come down to Lavey’s ability in defence to halt the free scoring, fast paced Trillick attack. The Reds have options and love that running game. Carla O’Reilly and Siobhan Jordan are talented defenders and could well be the answer to that defensive issue.
There’s vast experience, exciting talent and match winners aplenty on show. This could well be a junior final to remember.
