Trillick ladies will look back at their All Ireland semi final with a certain amount of regret following their loss to a very talented Glanmire outfit who looked imperious at times such was their control of the game.

The Cork and Munster champions settled very quickly to the task and in spite of playing into the breeze they built up a five point lead at the break as Kate Hannon (3) and Niamh Mc Allen (3)  led the line exceptionally well.

Trillick had a single point to show for their efforts in the first half but it could have been so different had they managed to convert even one of the three goal chances they created.

The second half saw Glanmire turn on the after burners as they opened up a 2-10 to 0-2 lead by the tenth minute of the half. Goals from Hannon and Sarah O’Brien plus points from Mc Allen and Hannon helped them establish a fourteen point lead.

At this stage it looked like Glanmire would run away with the game but Trillick showed great character and resolve. A brace of goals from corner forward Cathleen Kelly and points from Emma Brennan and Fiona Owens gave the Reds renewed hope. Nuala Kelly, Cathy Donnelly and Dearbhaile Gallagher began to ask questions of the Cork girls and Trillick found space where there had been none before .

Unfortunately for the Tyrone and Ulster champions Glanmire’s tenacious defending denied them any further goal scoring chances and time ran out on their comeback.

Final score : Trillick 2-8 Glanmire 2-13.
