Trillick St Macartans and Clonoe served up a feast of football in today’s grade one minor championship semi final at Augher before the Reds triumphed narrowly 2-11 to 1-13. Even though they had defeated Galbally and Dromore already in the championship Trillick went into this game as underdogs but produced a very solid hard working team display to edge it by one in the end. Daire Gallagher and Lee Brennan were in outstanding form for the winners and a defence splitting pass from Brennan set Gallagher up for the first goal of the game. A second Trillick goal from Stephen O’Donnell left the half time score 2-06 to 0-06 in favour of the Reds. However The O’Rahillys rallied at the start of the second half and were ahead within ten minutes having hit 1-04 without reply as Danny Mc Nulty led the charge with an unstoppable shot to the net. Trillick were looking shell shocked at this stage but a superb point from Rory Brennan lifted his team and further scores from Lee Brennan and Daire Gallagher edged Trillick ahead again late in the game. Danny Mc Nulty replied for Clonoe but Trillick dug deep and with some great defending held out to win by a point and qualify for their first grade one minor championship final since they won back to back titles in 1968 and 69.
