Trillick St Macartans picked up two very valuable points this evening when they out gunned Omagh in their Division One league fixture at Donnelly Park. The teams were level with seven minutes to go 0-11 to 2-5 but Trillick added four further points while holding their opponents to just one point during that period. Final score Trillick 0-15, Omagh 2-6.
Omagh opened the scoring before falling two points behind with Daire Gallagher, Niall Gormley and Ritchie Donnelly on target for the home side. Niall Gormley added two further points but Ryan Mc Bride and Cathal Mc Carron kept Omagh in the hunt with three first half points between them.
Trillick opened the scoring in the second half with two early points from a Ritchie Donnelly 45 and a Lee Brennan score. Omagh were reduced to fourteen men at this stage but wing half back Ryan Mc Bride converted a penalty to put his side one behind eight minutes into the half. County man Mattie Donnelly landed Trillick’s eighth point of the game and this was quickly followed up by another score from Lee Brennan as the Reds moved 0-9 to 1-3 ahead. However a second Omagh goal from Kieran Brannigan and a point from Coaran McLaughlin put the visitors in front before Niall Gormley tied the scores once again.
Omagh continued to work hard and in spite of being a man down they took the lead again through Conan Grugan as the game entered the last ten minutes. Trillick responded positively however and points from Luke Donnelly and Ritchie Donnelly (0-2) put the home side in front again. Omagh kept battling and narrowed the gap to a single point with three minutes left but another score each from Lee Brennan and Ritchie Donnelly secured a 0-15 to 2-6 win for Trillick.
