The communities of Carrickmore and Pomeroy are joining forces this summer in a bid to become world record breakers – but they need yourHELP! Personal trainers Paula Donaghy and Gerry Mills are in search of a minimum of 540 participants to run a mile backwards.  The current record of 539 set in Belgium a number of years ago. With fun at the heart of the event, there is also the serious task of trying to raise as much money as possible for three local cancer charities. The plan is for teams of six people to each run a mile backwards. People can register in teams or as individuals and will be allocated to a team. The race starts at Carrickmore GAA club on August 17th, at 12noon. The teams will pass the baton along in this reverse relay until they reach Pomeroy GAA club six miles away. People will only be running 1/2 mile backward and 1/2mile forward and then repeat this, so in actual fact it’s only 2 mile everyone runs! Participates will be lifted by bus then if they wish, and travel to Pomeroy Plunkett GAC were refreshment will be served for all to enjoy.
Paula and Gerry are calling for sports clubs, community groups, clubs, and anyone up for being a record breaker to register for the even. Pleaseregister on line
