Kildare 1-21 Tyrone 3-16
Tyrone produced a smash and grab at St.Conleith’s Park in Kildare on Sunday afternoon as they somehow secured a win to deny Kildare and maintain their unbeaten start to division one of the National league.

With only twenty seconds of normal time left to play an Eoghan O’Flaherty free left five between the sides and it looked all over bar the shouting. The visitors though refused to accept defeat with Ronan O’Neill scoring a goal and unbelievably they found the net in the next attack as well through substitute Mark Donnelly to snatch victory.

Kildare made all the early running as they blitzed Tyrone early on with seven points inside the opening ten minutes with Eoghan O’Flaherty kicking three points with Paddy Brophy, Darroch Mulhall and Cathal McNally also on target while full forward Tomas O’Connor went close to grabbing a goal. Mattie Donnelly opened Tyrone’s account after a dozen minutes and in the next attack the visitors almost grabbed a goal when Ronan O’Neill’s blistering shot clipped the bar on its way over.

Kildare moved seven in front again but Tyrone responded through Conor McAliskey, Morgan and Darren McCurry as they hit three points in a row. The Red Hands were then dealt a blow when Peter Harte was blacked carded, Ronan McNamee coming on in his place with O’Flaherty converting the resulting free. Emmett McKenna then fired in a brilliant goal and it was 0-13 to 1-9 at the break.

Four minutes into the second half O’Connor flicked in a goal and it left Tyrone chasing the game for the rest of the half. Mark Donnelly and McKenna helped reduce the gap to the minimum but again Kildare responded through Darroch Mulhall and Brophy. A couple of O’Neill frees kept Tyrone in touch but when O’Flaherty hit his sixth point of the game it looked all over.

Tyrone’s never say die attitude came to the fore with McCurry teeing up O’Neill for a goal before Kyle Coney supplied the pass for fellow substitute Donnelly to win it right at the end.
