Tyrone are into the semi finals of the Ulster U21 championship after recovering from a slow start to beat Cavan 2-10 to 0-10 at Kingspan Breffni Park on Wednesday evening.

The home side were out of the traps quick with two converted frees from keeper Liam Brady as well as a point from play from Pierse Smith to lead 0-3 to 0-0 with half a dozen minutes on the clock.  A Cathal McShane free opened the holders account but Cavan came straight down the field for Liam Galligan to leave three between the sides again.

Gradually though Tyrone began to come into the game. A brilliant individual point from Mark Kavanagh was followed by efforts from McShane and wing half back Padraig McGirr to level matters by the 20th minute. Galligan edged Cavan back in front but it was Tyrone who led 0-6 to 0-5 at the break thanks to another superb McShane brace.

A Brady free had Cavan on equal terms on the restart before Lee Brennan capped a surging run with a point for the lead again.  With twelve minutes left to play Tyrone struck for a brilliant goal when the hard working Frank Burns offloaded to Colm Byrne and the defender finished in style to the top left hand corner of the net. Niall Clerkin responded with a Cavan point but it was Tyrone who now had the upper hand and Ryan Coleman put them four in front again.  With five minutes left to play it was game over when a good ball in from the right wing from Burns saw Ben McDonnell  get to it before keeper Brady to find the net. Tyrone now play Donegal in the last four on March 30th.
