Tyrone and West of Ireland visitors Galway shared the points(1-13 to 2-10) in their second round Bord Gais Energy National League fixture today, writes Damien Donnelly.
An opening day defeat at the hands of Monaghan meant that the Red Hand girls headed into the home tie keen on chalking up some league points.
Galway travelled with a first round reversal behind them too against Donegal, so they did not lack motivation either in the search for a better result just like Tyrone.
The first 30 minutes could not have been much closer, just a point dividing the teams as Tyrone took a 0-9 to 1-5 lead into the interval, Gemma Begley, Cathy Donnelly and Eilis Gormley among the home scorers.
Early and late goals courtesy of Gilgannon and Gorman respectively helped Galway gain a point, Gorman’s late strike denying Tyrone both points.
The home team gave themselves some leeway as the last half unfolded, points from .Begley and co plus a well-worked Cathy Donnelly major assisting in moving them ahead.
Galway battled right to the finish and netted to return home West with a point to show for their efforts.
Tyrone play Donegal at home next weekend with a point on board and will aim to build on the promise of this performance.
