Tyrone begin their Allianz National League campaign this afternoon when Ulster neighbours Cavan are the visitors to Healy Park. It has been a case of so far so good in 2016 for Mickey Harte’s charges having once again got the maximum games out of the McKenna Cup on their way to a fifth title in a row.

The League though is a step up again and no doubt the Breffni men will make the trip to Omagh determined to upset the odds and try and inflict a first defeat of the season on the Red Hands. Division two is going to very tight this year and its imperative that Tyrone pick up points at home especially as they have only another two games at Healy Park after this one.

Cavan went through their McKenna Cup group undefeated as well as wins over Armagh and UUJ were followed by a draw with old rivals and next door neighbours Monaghan. In the semi final they came up short against Derry but there is no doubt they will be tough opponents with many of their players enjoying success at U21 level against Tyrone.

Mickey Harte has made seven changes from that epic McKenna Cup final win over Derry with Mickey O’Neill, Niall Sludden, Conor Meyler and Lee Brennan all set to make their league debuts.  Its a strong team that Mickey has picked and when you consider that the likes of Sean Cavanagh, Ronan McNamee and Mark Bradley are all on the bench he has options all over the field.
