The Tyrone under 14s took centre stage in a busy week for all involved with camogie throughout the county. The venue was Garvaghey on Saturday as the young but very experienced team welcomed Donegal in the Ulster shield semi-final. There was to be no upset as the Red Hands booked their place in the final with a convincing display against a county fresh from success in the Ulster Blitz a few weeks previous.
Tyrone totally dominated the visitors in all areas of the field with every player vying for a place in the team for the final next Saturday. They will now play Cavan in a repeat of last year’s final which ended in heartbreak for Tyrone. Cavan narrowly defeated Tyrone in the Ulster Blitz final a few weeks ago but the team will approach the final in confident mood. They have been training hard and this has always been the main aim for the squad from the start of the year.
The minor league saw a win for Eglish on Friday. In the under 16 league Edendork continued their unbeaten run as both themselves and Eire Og took points from their fixtures. Edendork are going well in this age group as they have booked a place in the championship final against Eglish.
Dungannon will play Éire Óg in the minor league on Monday evening and Moortown will host Eglish. The semi-final of the minor championship will be played this Friday. Dungannon will have home advantage as they play Moortown and Eglish will play Éire Óg in the other half of the draw all hoping for a place in the final on 13th September.
Ulster camogie are providing opportunities for our former players to play some camogie. They are inviting all clubs across Ulster to participate in a fun and non-competitive setting as a social gathering. The blitz will take place as a one off in November at the Meadowbank Sports Arena, Magherafelt as an indoor blitz.
Following on from this trial day, we can run it out again in the New Year as either indoor or outdoor or both depending on the success of the event. If any clubs are interested they can contact Lisa McAliskey, Ulster Regional Development Officer 07825855717/ 028 375 17180 or email: lisa@camogie.ie.
The annual Siobhan Tipp 7-a-side camogie tournament will be on Saturday 7th September at the Naomh Colum Cille pitch with registration at 10:00am and games starting 10:30am. It will be run in conjunction with the Gary Duffin hurling event also. It is always a fun filled event and the number of teams this year has already surpassed last year’s entries. Teams will be limited to 10 players but any club may enter more than one team.
We wish all the teams involved every success in what always is an entertaining day.
