The county seniors continued their training with a new goal to aim for in the coming year. The Ulster championship draws and dates were finalised and Tyrone will play in the Intermediate section this year. The first match will be on 28th April away to a Down B side. The competition will be a “round robin” format and up next will be a home venue on 12th May against an Antrim B side. The final has been scheduled for 15th June. It is hoped that the squad can build on the solid foundations laid down by last year’s coaching staff.

The minor championship will see Tyrone with home advantage against their old adversaries Cavan on 24th July. Last year’s minor team will be largely unchanged with only a few moving to the senior ranks and they will be hoping to add to the trophy cabinet with a strong squad.

In the under 16 section the camogs are drawn away to Monaghan on 25th May and a win would see a final on 1st June. Tyrone won this competition in 2010 with a very strong and talented team and this year’s squad is likely to be just as competitive.

The under 14s Ulster championship will see Tyrone host Donegal on 31st August with a possible final on 7th September. Underage camogie within Tyrone has huge numbers participating and there will be a lot expected from the young team especially after last year’s narrow defeat in the final against Cavan.

The Ulster Council held its annual county officer network training on Saturday past in Donaghmore Torrent Complex. The half-day session was laid out with strategic themed workshops on topics covering Governance, Games, Facilities, Culture and Community Development. Tyrone camogie was well represented at the workshop and we would like to thank Ulster Council for the invitation to such well managed and professional sessions. We all at Tyrone camogie look forward invitations to further events in the coming year.

The first Tyrone camogie county board meeting was held last week. The Tyrone club championship format was discussed at length. It is advised that all clubs are briefed on the discussions that took place and attend the next meeting so a finalised structure can take place. A big thanks to Aisling Campbell for producing a draft fixtures timetable and clubs are also advised to study her document carefully.

Bríd Uí Dhonnghaile of Éire Óg has been nominated for the prestigious Camogie Volunteer of the year award. Bríd does immense work for her club and can be seen at every blitz and match at all age groups. She also has managed the Tyrone minor and under 16 camogie squads and she is totally dedicated to her club and county. We all wish her every success for the award and she will certainly enjoy a day in Croke Park at the awards ceremony later this year.

Ulster Camogie and Ladies Gaelic Football Knee Injuries Workshop has been confirmed and it will be on Wednesday January 23rd, The Sherry Complex, Cathedral Road, Armagh 7pm-9pm.
