Tyrone enjoyed home advantage on Sunday in their NCL Division 4 fixture against Dublin IIIs at Healy Park. It was a calm and dry afternoon and the pitch was in good condition despite the previous day’s rain.
It was Tyrone who made the best of a scrappy start Aisling Corr fired home the first point.
Gritty defending from captain Julie Lagan denied Dublin what looked like a certain goal. Both teams fought hard for possession before some good play between Niamh McNulty and Niamh Gavin resulted in another point for Tyrone. Dublin’s Lyn Devoy made light work of open space to take her team’s first point after eight minutes.
A fine pass from Corr to Shauna Jordan saw her slot over another point for Tyrone while Dublin’s Clare Graham from a free pinned the home side back with a well taken point.
Tyrone maintained the pressure in midfield and Emma Fitzgerald found space to set up Jordan for another Tyrone score. The Red Hands were now getting the upper hand with Corr’s workrate in midfield proving central to their dominance.
A burst of pace from Ailise Gormley and a sublime pass to Aisling Jordan resulted in a fine point from McNulty. A Dublin free from the 45metre line caused confusion in the Tyrone defence before Dublin’s Clodagh Rodgers pounced to steer the ball into the Tyrone net and draw the sides level.
The status quo lasted for all of about a minute before Tyrone broke clear with Jordan finding McNulty in space and she fired home their first goal. After another Tyrone wide the half time whistle sounded with the score board reading Tyrone 1-5 Dublin 1-2.
There were definite signs that Tyrone were starting to wear Dublin down but the Red Hand girls could not capitalise on their territorial superiority. Ashling Spillane in goals for Dublin stood out for the visitors making several excellent saves.
Tyrone introduced Pauline Barker from the bench and within minutes she had bagged her first goal. Emma McShane, Aisling Corr, Emma Fitzgerald and Ciara McGready produced strong displays for Tyrone to keep the pressure on their opponents throughout an entertaining second half.
Maggie Hagan took advantage of this midfield dominance to register her first point but a quick Dublin reply kept the visitors close.
Jordan increased her points total from a free before McNulty added another two points. Fitzgerald crowned a fine individual showing with a point of her own. Dublin’s Roisin Barker then scored for the visitors before Tyrone’s Maggie Hagan again added to her points tally. The visitors rounded off the day’s scoring with a late goal but it made no difference to the result as Tyrone enjoyed a home win on a final score of Tyrone 2-11 Dublin III 2-4.

Tyrone scorers Niamh McNulty 1-3, Shauna Jordan 0-3,Pauline Barker 1-0, Maggie Hagan 0-2, Aisling Corr 0-1, Niamh Gavin 0-1, Emma Fitzgerald 0-1

Up next for Tyrone is an away fixture with Kerry on March 23rd at a half way venue.
