Derrylaughan 1-21 1-17 Clogher

Derrylaughan have set up a quarter final meeting with Owen Roes, despite a late scare from a gallant Clogher side. Played in beautiful conditions in Stewartstown both teams contributed to a hugely entertaining contest with the game’s outstanding player Tomas Carney hitting thirteen points.

Derrylaughan got off to the perfect start. Brian Kennedy won the throw in, his through ball found Ciaran Quinn who fired to the net within the opening fifteen seconds. Carney kicked his first four points from play, but expert free taking from Ryan McCaughey and a couple of Ciaran Bogue points saw the Kevin Barrys lead 1-6 to 0-6 after 20 minutes.

A strong finish to the half saw Derrylaughan stretch the lead to six at the interval with Stephen McGrath and Darragh Carney also hitting the target.

Clogher started the second half brightly to narrow the gap to four, but points from Donnelly, McGrath and Carney re-established the Derrylaughan advantage.

Carney’s tenth of the evening, a wonderful free from distance off the ground, saw the gap grow to seven with ten to play. Marc McConnell whose direct running caused problems all evening kicked his third point with seven remaining before in the next attack he blasted to the net and suddenly only three points separated the sides.

Once again Carney stepped forward kicking three of the next four scores to ensure his side’s passage to the last eight. In injury time Brian Kennedy picked up a second yellow card as Derrylaughan ran out deserving winners.

Moortown 2-24 Fintona 1-9

Moortown threw down the gauntlet at Pearse Park in Galbally on Saturday afternoon that they are the side to beat in the race for the Intermediate Championship after a superb attacking display against Fintona.
All 2-24 of their tally came from play on a day when they had a dozen different scorers with 0-10 coming from their defence and midfield and 1-2 off the bench. Go Power Man of the match Connor Quinn weighed in with three points as did halfback colleague Tarlach Quinn after full back Christopher McGuigan had opened the scoring.
Liam Lawn and Paul Quinn contributed points with Mattie Conlon finding the net on the stroke of halftime. Aaron McCarney, Oran Hughes, Peter McGlynn and keeper Cathal Gillespie were among the points for the Pearses while defender Jared Brogan bagged a well taken second half goal. Moortown though were always on top with Shea Lawn, Sean Kelly and substitute Butch Kelly tagging on points while the latter also got their second goal as they set up a quarter final against Aghyaran.
Errigal Ciaran 0-13 Pomeroy 2-4
Errigal Ciaran justified their favourites tag at Loughmacrory on Saturday evening but not before they were pushed all the way by a determined Pomeroy side.
Padraig McGirr opened the scoring for the winners with Ruairi Canavan doubling their advantage from a free before Hugh McNamee opened the Plunketts account. Errigal Ciaran though then got on top with Ruairi Canavan tagging on another four points with his brother Darragh and Peter Harte also on target. In the last attack of the first half Brendan Burns smashed the ball to the roof of the Errigal Ciaran net to leave it 0-8 to 1-1 at the break.
Peter Og McCartan and Kieran McGeary traded points on the restart before the latter reduced the deficit with a fine effort from play. Ruairi Canavan and a Joe Oguz brace increased Errigal Ciaran’s advantage but with seven minutes left to play Pomeroy were thrown a lifeline when Ryan Loughran caught a high delivery before firing to the net. Only a score separated the two sides but another Ruairi Canavan point kept Errigal at arms length before McGeary had the final say for the Plunketts.
Trillick 1-17 1-9 Eglish

Trillick successfully navigated the opening hurdle in their quest to defend their Tyrone senior championship. The Reds proved too strong for a determined Eglish side in sunny Pearse Park, Galbally. The result confirming Eglish’s return to Intermediate football next season.

Lee Brennan opened the scoring for the champions in the seventh minute and four further points in as many minutes courtesy of Ciaran Daly, Mattie Donnelly and James Garrity saw the advantage stretch to five. Ethan Jordan’s accuracy from placed balls was a feature of the afternoon and he opened his account in the 13th minute.

Eglish got right back into the contest moments later, Matthew McGleenan was fouled and Ethan Jordan gave Joe Maguire no chance from the spot. James Garrity hit his second before Jordan and Brennan traded points. Eglish almost took the lead shortly after when Maguire made a fine save to deny Cormac Byrne.

Lee Brennan’s third and a Ryan McKenna point saw Trillick lead 0-8 1-3 at the break.

Trillick had the majority of possession but a well organised Eglish defence was proving difficult to breach. The sides shared seven points and when Ryan McKenna kicked his second the margin remained two with 15 to go,

Crucially Trillick reeled off the next five with Ciaran Daly & Mattie Donnelly bringing their totals to three and Lee Brennan’s fifth left clear daylight.

Seamus Muldoon and Ethan Jordan who finished with 1-5, hit late frees, before the final action saw Mattie Donnelly being fouled, despite Jack Gibney saving the initial spot kick, Lee Brennan scored from the rebound to emulate Jordan with 1-5.

Trillick now move to the quarter final and a meeting with Ardboe
