Strabane, Omagh and Edendork represented the Red Hand county at the inaugural Charlene Griffiths ladies football sevens tournament on Saturday 19th April by kind invitation of Steelstown Brian Ogs.

On a day during which the inclement weather made it difficult to play good football, the teams made light of the underfoot conditions and played some wonderful, entertaining matches throughout the day.

Edendork and Strabane qualified for the cup competition by virtue of finishing in the top of their round robin groups and after some enthralling games against Lavey, Glen, Sean Dolans and Steelstown, both of the Tyrone sides exited the competition before the final.

The girls from Omagh hit a fine vein of form in the Shield competition to defeat Claudy and Newtownbutler before defeating Faughanvale to claim a well deserved victory in the final.

It was a fitting finale to the competition when the host club defeated Sean Dolans in the cup final to ensure that the Charlene Griffiths cup remained in Steelstown.
