Tyrone bounced back from a heavy defeat to Kildare last time out to record a confidence boosting win over Wicklow at Carrickmore on Saturday afternoon. Played in ideal conditions Tyrone were good value for their 1-25 to 2-16 win.

Ben Gormley opened the scoring for Tyrone straight from the throw in but a Seanie Germaine free levelled the scores two minutes later. Points from Aidy Kelly, Sean Óg Grogan and Lorcan Devlin helped Tyrone pull away. Three in a row from Kelly put his team in a commanding position before points from Germaine brought Wicklow back into the game. Further points from James Mc Cann, a sideline cut from Tiernan Morgan and a Ben Gormley score sent the sides off at the break with Tyrone leading 0-16 to 0-6.

Wicklow opened the scoring at the start of the second half and followed that up with a long distance goal direct from a free by Germaine. Devlin and `Grogan added points before Sean Duffin smashed a penalty to the net. This put Tyrone 1-19 to 1-8 ahead but Wicklow tagged on a few points as they sought to get themselves back into the contest.

A goal from David Maloney with points either side of that caused one or two moments of nervousness among the Tyrone followers but late scores from Aidy Kelly, James Mc Cann and Mickey Little sealed the win on a final score of Tyrone 1-25, Wicklow 2-16.

Congratulations also to the Minor hurlers on their superb Celtic Challenge Cup semi final win over Westmeath. The final score was 5-16 to 0-13.
