Tyrone Defender Quinn Opts Out
Friday 14.06.2013
Tyrone have been dealt a blow ahead of the opening round of the All Ireland qualifiers with the news that defender PJ Quinn has announced that he is opting out of the panel. The tight man marking corner back informed manager Mickey Harte of his decision earlier this week.
It is believed that he has cited work commitments as the main reason for his decision as he struggles to combine earning a living with the rigorous training regime that is now required at the top level in county football.
Moortown clubman Quinn, who first shot to prominence on the All Ireland minor winning side of 2004, was on the sidelines for a year with an ankle injury that required surgery to repair. He made his comeback in the National League semi final win over Kildare in April and also played the entire seventy minutes in the decider a fortnight later against Dublin.
His two displays earned him a starting berth against All Ireland champions Donegal in the Ulster Championship in Ballybofey last month and while he was replaced at halftime there is no doubt that he was a key part of Tyrone’s plans. On a positive note for Tyrone, attacker Ronan O’Neill returned to action for his club Omagh at the weekend and showed no ill effects from his recent hamstring injury scoring four points in his side’s win.
