Tyrone travelled to Cavan on Saturday to take on the Breffni Blues in both under 16 and under 17 and came away with two very convincing wins.

The under 16s were first to throw in and the young Red Hands served up a superb display to defeat their opponents on a final score of 6-13 to 2-10 on the synthetic pitch at Breffni Park.

The under 17s then took to the field down at Lavey knowing that a win there would take them through to the minor league final. Collie Holmes’ team produced an excellent performance before recording a 1-23 to 0-6 victory.

Both Tyrone sides played with great discipline and commitment. The 16s hit four first half goals with Conor Cush, Eoghan Devlin and Brett Donaghy on target. Cush was outstanding throughout while Conor McGillian and Adam Toner were two others to impress.

Cavan made more of a fist of things in the second half but Tyrone refused to let up and Shea Lawn, Eoin Barkley and Blaine Ryan were among those who stood out for the winners.

With a place in the Minor league final at stake Tyrone minors were expecting a stern challenge from a Cavan side determined to lay down a marker for later in the year. With home advantage and a one hundred percent record many in the large crowd expected the Breffni boys to set the pace.

What we saw was a well drilled and highly motivated Tyrone team produce their best display of the year to run out convincing 1-23 to 0-6 winners.

Playing against the wind Tyrone totally dominated the first half to reach the break twelve points clear. The full forward line of Devlin, Daly and Browne took some fantastic scores during the opening thirty minutes while their movement off the ball caused no end of problems for the Cavan defence.

The second half saw Cavan produce a much improved display but they failed to really trouble the very compact Tyrone defence while the Red Hands attack added 1-10 in another hugely impressive thirty minutes of football.

With the the championship game against Donegal now only a matter of weeks away Tyrone will be hoping to use the league final as ideal preparation for their trip to Donegal.
