Tyrone Ease Into Final
Wednesday 21.01.2015
Tyrone are through to another Bank of Ireland McKenna Cup final after a surprisingly comfortable 3-10 to 1-8 success over Armagh at the Athletic Grounds on Wednesday evening. Played in front of 7552 spectators, the Red Hands never looked back from the moment PJ Lavery blasted the ball to the roof of the net after only five minutes.
Sean Cavanagh and Miceal McKenna exchanged points before midfielder Conall McCann marked his debut with a well taken score. Shay McGuigan then got in for Tyrone’s second major and at that stage the holders were eight points to the good. Armagh midfielder Stefan Campbell then weighed in with a well taken goal but while Tony Kernan and Jamie Clarke added points a goal from Captain Sean Cavanagh left Tyrone well in control at the short whistle.
Connor McAliskey kicked the opening two points of the second half and there was no way back for the Orchard men after they failed to score for a quarter of an hour. McKenna, Ciaran O’Hanlon and Aidan Forker tagged on points but Tyrone were always in control with McAliskey and Darren McCurry adding to their tally. Tyrone will play Cavan back at the Athletic Grounds in the final on Saturday evening as they bid for a fourth title in a row.
