Tyrone Edged Out in Tight League Opener Against Roscommon

Tyrone’s camogie team kicked off their league campaign with a home fixture against Roscommon, but despite a determined second-half fightback, they fell just short in a narrow defeat.

Playing against a strong wind in the opening half, Tyrone found themselves under early pressure from Roscommon. The visitors coped better with the conditions, with Ciara Kilcommins opening the scoring. The home side, missing key players Lara Devlin and goalkeeper Eimear Colton due to injury, had Grainne McDonald stepping in ably between the posts.

Bronagh Moohan registered Tyrone’s first point, but their defence faced relentless pressure with Úna McCann and Nicola McKiver making crucial clearances. Kilcommins added another score for Roscommon before Roisin McErlean responded for the Red Hands from a placed ball. Sarah Dooley and Orla Connolly extended Roscommon’s lead to three points heading into halftime.

The second half started with a blow for Tyrone as Celine Gacquin struck for a Roscommon goal, putting the visitors in a commanding position. However, Tyrone showed great resilience, led by midfielders Rachel O’Neill and Aisling Hagan, making her return to county action after more than a decade. Beth Jones pulled a point back as the Red Hands began to dominate possession.

Despite mounting pressure and a late surge, Tyrone ran out of time, falling just one point short in a thrilling finish.
