Sunday’s Bord Gais National League opener against Monaghan proved a difficult day at the office for Tyrone ladies but round two this weekend can hopefully prove more productive, writes Damien Donnelly.
Gemma Begley(0-3), Cathy Donnelly(0-2), Neamh Woods(0-1) and Clodagh Poyntz(0-1) comprised Tyrone’s first day returns against the Oriel girls.
Galway are second up for the Red Hands this Sunday at Dungannon and in a tough division this represents another challenging test for the hosts. Donegal defeated Galway last Sunday, so both sides should be well motivated for round two.
As mentioned in last week’s Ladies Focus, new management and a fair amount of new playing personnel mean that some gelling in time has to be required. Injuries are also playing their part.
Such factors aside, though, Tyrone will want to get among the points as quickly as possible and naturally a home tie is important in laying down a league marker.
Sunday’s other games in Division One feature Donegal v Laios, Kildare v Cork and Mayo v Monaghan.
Tyrone inter-county youths squads are also being shaped for the season ahead and we’ll focus more on this as the year unfolds.
On the club ladies football front, preparations are in place for the new campaign across various age-groups and levels, starting dates and details to be confirmed in due course.
