Tyrone U14 girls have qualified for the All Ireland Gold final after an outstanding display saw them get the better of Cavan at Lisnaskea on Saturday afternoon. Having lost to their opponents twice this season the Red Hands girls were determined to make it a case of third time lucky and they did it in style with a 8-11 to 5-3 victory to set up a decider next weekend with Monaghan.

It was Cavan who were out of the traps quickly with a free from Allanna McPhillips being quickly followed by a Sarah Clarke goal. Tyrone though then clicked into gear as they held their opponents scoreless for twenty two minutes to take control of proceedings. Aine Grimes converted a penalty before Sorcha Gormley got in for a goal. Points followed from Emma Conroy, Emer McCanny and Gormley with Conroy also finding the net as the winners hit 3-6 without reply. Cavan though responded with two goals from Caoimhe Halpin and one from Ellie Brady to reduce the deficit to 4-6 to 4-2 at the break.

Tyrone were down to fourteen players for a ten minute spell either side of the break but crucially while Cavan had the opening point of the second half through Ella Boylan they could make no further inroads into the Tyrone lead. In fact they were to score once more as they found life extremely difficult against a brilliant Tyrone defence and on the couple of times that they did get through keeper Erin Harvey saved the Red Hands.

When Tyrone returned to their full compliment of players there was only going to be one winner. Gormley tormented the Cavan defence on her way to a personal haul of 4-2 with Ciara Quinn bagging two goals and Rachel Kelly and Conroy tagging on late points to give Tyrone an emphatic victory.
