Following the unprecedented success of the Tyrone juveniles in last year’s Ulster and All-Ireland handball championships, this year’s Tyrone squad has a massive challenge on its hands to try and reproduce the same level of success in 2013.
After last weekend’s huge programme of games in Kingscourt and St Mellan’s, Tyrone will again feature prominently in the Ulster juvenile championship finals thanks to a number of great results in various age groups.
Hopes are high that Tyrone can top the provincial roll of honour when the Ulster juvenile championship finals are staged in Kingscourt on Saturday 9th March, with 24 titles up for grabs covering singles and doubles in both the boys and girls categories, from under-12 up to under-17.
Through to the provincial boys finals are Lorcan McBride (U12 singles), Dara Curran and Cahir Munroe (U12 doubles), Cormac Munroe (U13 singles), Antoin Fox and Dara Canavan (U13 doubles), Ciaran Cuddy and Conor Kelly (U14 doubles) and Sean Kerr and Jack Campbell (U16 doubles).
Among the finalists in the girls section are Elizabeth McGarvey (U12 singles), Catlin Conway and Mairead Fox (U12 doubles), Emer Kerr (U13 singles), Michaela McCartan and Ciara Mullan (U13 doubles) and Elise McCrory (U15 singles).
There are still some semi-final matches to be played next week, featuring Turlough Clarke (U14 singles), Ciaran Daly and Eoin Quinn (U15 doubles), Aoife Kelly (Girls U16 singles) and Aoibhinn McAnespie and Sinead Donnelly (Girls U15 doubles).
Unfortunately, some of the Tyrone players bowed out against really strong opposition last weekend, including Tiernan McCrystal (U15 singles), Niall Allison (U16 singles) and Cloideach Donaghy and Chloe McElhinney (Girls U14 doubles).
The Ulster juvenile finals will take place in Kingscourt on Saturday 9th March and Tyrone will be very well represented once again.

Meanwhile, the recent county winners in Cumann na mBunscoil will go to Donegal to represent Tyrone this Saturday in the Ulster series.
The boys’ competitions will be played off in Glenfin and the girls’ competitions will be staged in Ballybofey, with Tyrone meeting the Derry champions in the quarter-finals at all levels.
Brian Mc Aleer (Recarson) will be the county under-11 boys singles representative and Cathair Munroe and Lorcan Mc Garrity (St Columbkilles, Carrickmore) will challenge for the under-11 doubles title.
Mairead Fox (St Teresas, Loughmacrory) is the Tyrone girls under-11 singles representative, with Sharlene Short and Seana Clarke (Drumduff) featuring in the doubles.
Caolan Mc Cartan (St Oliver Plunkett, Beragh) is the Tyrone boys under-13 singles champion and the doubles representatives for Tyrone are Dara Curran and Patrick Curran (St Teresas)
And at under-13 level the county’s representatives are Caitlin Conway (St Teresas) in singles and Grainne Curran and Niamh Fox (St Teresas) in doubles…
