Tyrone ladies travelled to Clones this afternoon in confident mood convinced that they could gain revenge for a humiliating defeat in the O’Dowd Cup earlier this year when the Oriel girls held Tyrone scoreless. However it was not to be and Monaghan retained the Ulster Title with a very convincing 3-18 to 0-10 win over their great rivals.

Monaghan led 2-8 to 0-7 at the break with Niamh Kindlon and Caoimhe Mohan getting their goals. The sides shared the opening eight points of the game but then the winners took control despite scores for the Red Hands from Aisling O’Kane, Cathy Donnelly and Gemma Begley. Tyrone opened the second half scoring through Donnelly but they were to add only two more points from Begley and Joline Donnelly as they failed to score in the final quarter. Monaghan on the other hand had points from Kindlon, Therese McNally, Eileen McElroy and Ciara McAnespie before Mohan got her second goal of the contest nine minutes from time. Carrickmore’s Gemma Begley emerged Tyrone’s top scorer with half a dozen points to her name with four of those coming from frees.
