Tyrone Ladies Defeat Donegal To Secure Division One Football.
Sunday 18.03.2012
Tyrone Ladies secured Division One football for next year when they had six points to spare over Donegal today in their Bord Gais fixture at Ballybofey this afternoon. Gerry Moane’s side knew they were in a relegation dogfight and approached this game with great commitment and energy. The Red Hands began with pace and purpose and were quick to establish a comfortable lead. Carol Mc Glinchey and Joline Donnelly were on target for the visitors as they led the hosts a merry dance. By half time a dominant Tyrone had opened up a six point lead 0-7 to 0-1 with Donegal’s only score of the half coming from a free on the 30th minute.
Tyrone continued to dominate the game in the second half and goals from Joline Donnelly and Mairead Conwell ensured that although the Tir Chonail girls managed to raise themselves from their slumber there would be no denying Tyrone the victory. Donnelly finished top scorer for her side with 1-5 to her credit on a day when much of the good work being done on the training field paid off on the pitch as Tyrone recorded a 2-13 to 3-4 victory.
Next up for Gerry Moane and his charges is the concluding game of the league with the visit of Cork to Omagh.
