Lidl National Football League Div 2
Tyrone 4-12
Laois 2-8
Tyrone and Cavan will battle it out on Sunday for one of two remaining league semi-final spots after a solid ten point win for the Red Hands over Laois at Stradbally.

The final places are between Gerry Moane’s side, Cavan and Armagh. Tyrone, thanks to a brace of Maria Canavan goals and an early Aine Canavan three pointer led by ten at the break but by the end of the third quarter Laois had pulled themselves to within three points, albeit thanks to a couple of dubious refereeing calls including a harsh penalty.
Tyrone to their credit steadied the ship and controlled the game after that rocky spell. Indeed they added a fourth goal through substitute Niamh Hughes after quality combination play between Hughes and Lycrecia Quinn. That score allowed them to ease to a comfortable win and leave them well placed for a semi-final spot.
Joanne Barrett and Niamh Mc Girr were once again assured at the back while late replacement in goals Laura Kane made three outstanding saves. The young Galbally woman was drafted in after Shannon Lynch had been ruled out injured.

Up front Maria Canavan top scored with 2-4 while Grainne Rafferty produced another outstanding display, an excellent 0-3 combined with quality distribution and good build up play.
Aine Canavan opened the Tyrone account with her goal when Grainne Rafferty’s effort rattled a post and fell to the inrushing half forward. Emma Jane Gervin and Conlon traded points while Kane was on hand to deny Burke and Conlon on three occasions. Maria Canavan added two goals before Emma Smyth and Canavan wrapped up the Tyrone first half tally as Burke and Fiztpatrick landed late Laois points.
Grainne Rafferty opened the second half scoring with an early point but it was Laois who stormed back. They benefitted from a couple of soft frees. Dunne rattled in a goal, Smyth replied with a Tyrone point before Tyrone conceded a penalty. Langton looked to have over carried before going to ground under a Mc Girr challenge. Dunne hit the target from the spot kick. Conlon then landed a close range free a minute later to leave three points between the sides.
Emma Jane Gervin sent over a great point from the right. Maria Canavan followed it up with a pointed free before a fifty fourth minute goal wrapped up the contest. Quinn and Hughes fresh off the bench combined with Hughes slipping the ball to the right of the Laois keeper.
Canavan and Rafferty tagged on further points in the closing stages to open the gap to ten again and ease Tyrone to third spot in the league, teeing up a winner takes all tie with the Breffni girls at Clanabogan Park on Sunday.
It will be a big Tyrone Cavan weekend as Under 14s, 16s, minors and seniors all face Breffni sides.
