Tyrone guaranteed their place in Division One of the Ladies National League following Sunday afternoon’s facile 5-15 to 1-10 win over a very disappointing Laois side.

With so much at stake in terms of league position this was expected to be a very competitive and close game. However the fact that Laois arrived at Clanabogan half an hour late and with only seventeen players tells its own story. The O’Moore County were competitive in the opening exchanges and led 0-3 to 0-2 after six minutes following three converted Laura-Marie Maher frees.

However once Tyrone began to find their feet with Neamh Woods, Angie Mc Shane and Tori Mc Laughlin driving them forward at every opportunity the home side began to chalk up the scores. The home side found the net four times in the opening half but had one of those ruled out due to a square ball infringement. In spite of this majors from Grainne Rafferty, Cathy Donnelly and Niamh O’Neill between the 7th and 10th minutes ensured there was only going to be one winner.

Tyrone reached the short whistle 3-9 to 0-3 in front and in total control. Emma Smyth, Joline Donnelly, Shannon Quinn and Gemma Begley were all on target during a very impressive opening period.

The second half saw Tyrone run the bench as they played some entertaining and expansive football. Further goals were added courtesy of Gemma Begley and Joline Donnelly as the Red Hands eased their way to victory.

A word of appreciation to the host club Drumragh Sarsfields who pulled out all the stops to ensure that the pitch and the facilities were all in fine shape.
