TYRONE 5-7
DONEGAL 0-10
Tyrone turned in a fine team display at Augher on Saturday to defeat Donegal in their Division One National League clash and in so doing ease their relegation worries. The home side found their scoring boots in style with a five goal return that put a disappointing Donegal side to the sword. Despite opening the scoring through two fine Geraldine Mc Laughlin points the visitors found themselves 3-2 to 0-4 behind at the break as goals from Gemma Begley and Joline Donnelly put Tyrone in control. Team captain Begley hit the first of her two goals on nine minutes when she finished a half chance to the back of the net. Cathy Donnelly scored the Red Hands second of the game before Begley slotted home the first of two penalties following a foul on Shannon Quinn3.
With the wind at their backs in the second half Donegal were quickly out of the blocks. McLaughlin and Ward were on target with points but any hopes they had of a sustained comeback were scuppered when Quinn beat goalkeeper Niamh Mailey for Tyrone’s fourth goal of the day. This setback certainly affected the visitors and although Guthrie kept the Donegal flag flying with two well taken long range points they never really got going and the game as a contest was over. Begley scored a fifth goal from the penalty spot when substitute Lycrceca Quinn was brought down and the scoring was wrapped up when Friel and Conwell exchanged points in the closing minutes of the game.
TYRONE SCORERS Gemma Begley 3-2, Cathy Donnelly 1-0, Shannon Quinn 1-0 , Joline Donnelly 0-3, Mary Cassidy, Mairead Conwell 0-1 each
