Strabane Sigersons 3-5 Owen Roe O’Neill’s 1-7
Strabane Sigersons took on Owen Roes in the Tyrone Ladies Grade 4 Minor Championship final replay last Friday night at Michael Dolan Memorial Park Aghyaran and both sets of players didn’t disappoint their respective supporters who were enthralled to the final whistle in an action packed encounter.
Right from the start it was a very entertaining game with Strabane opening the scoring with two quick points on the board. Owen Roes quickly responded and levelled proceedings but Strabane’s Katy McGillian found her feet and went on a mesmerising run that the Owen Roes defence just couldn’t stop before slotting the ball into the back of the net for a fantastic goal. However the Owen Roes heads didn’t drop and straight from the kick out they responded getting a well worked goal of their own. Three more scores for Owen Roes before the end of the first half gave them a narrow advantage going in at half time.
Half-time score: Strabane 1-2 Owen Roes 1-5

In the second half the Strabane girls tightened up their defence and any chance Owen Roes had of scoring was over turned by the hard working Katlyn Brogan and her colleagues. Strabane pushed forward with Katy McGillian scoring a point to reduce the gap to two points. The next attack saw a long ball played in from midfield creating a chance for Strabane debutant Theresa Burns and she fired the ball into the net to give her side the lead. Michaelina McGonigle then extended the lead with a fine point.
Owen Roes responded well again by going forward and scoring two more points to narrow the gap.
The Sigersons spirit was very strong with team captain Áine O’Connor driving her team forward along with fellow midfielder Shania Connolly and they created another goal chance for super sub Theresa Burns to firmly put away. A fine score from a free kick via Michaelina McGonagle at the end secured a huge win for the Strabane girls who had been previously beaten twice by this Owen Roes side earlier on this season.
Sigersons Minor Girls
Earlier round wins over Urney and Pomeroy plus the first drawn game against the Roes no doubt inspired the Sigersons girls to bring silverware back to the club so as to emulate their Under 14 counterparts just a week or so earlier.
Well done to all the panel of players and not forgetting the management trio of Michella Moss , Lorraine Conwell and Laura Coyle who put in a massive effort all season long.

The Strabane squad was as follows; Kerry Duffy, Caoimhe Friel, Katlyn Brogan, Vicki McLaughlin, Aoife O’Kane, Leah O’Hagan, Chloe McCafferty, Áine O’Connor, Kylie Friel, Katy McGillian, Michaelina McGonigle, Caoimhe O’Hagan, Shania Connolly, Megan Boggs, Niamh Maguire, Theresa Burns, Eireann O’Hagan, Nikita McCay, Touraan Baghi and Megan McDonagh
The referee was John McGlynn (Aghyaran)
