Monaghan 1-16 Tyrone 3-07

Glennon Brothers Pearse Park Longford was the venue for Tyrone ladies clash with Monaghan in the All Ireland championship on saturday. Sadly for the Red Hand girls it was a venue and occasion they may want to forget as the Farney girls ran out comfortable winners.

The final score showed only three points between the teams but in truth Monaghan were much the better side throughout and could have won by more but for some superb saves by Seannan Lynch in the Tyrone goal. The winners still contrived to be ten points up, 1-12 to 0-5, early in the second half but Tyrone got back to within three points by full-time.

Monaghan slipped three second half goals – and the Red Hands were denied another when captain Gemma Begley saw her penalty well saved by Linda Martin. Begley converted a later penalty while Niamh O’Neill and Tori McLaughlin also found the net but Monaghan never looked in any real danger.

However Tyrone’s will rue their missed penalty because Monaghan found the Tyrone net with their next attack and virtually sealed the game.
