Tyrone ladies will be focused now on the all Ireland qualifiers draw at Croke Park on Monday after they suffered a 3-19 to 1-7 loss at the hands of Donegal in the TG4 Ulster semi-final at Cavan.

Donegal powered on by their success at Under 21 level turned in a fine second half display with 1-5 from McLaughlin (0-4 from frees) , Yvonne Mc Monagle and Amber Barrett also among the scores as their defence made life difficult for the Tyrone attackers. They struggled to take their chances but they were in the game for long periods.

A fortunate Donegal penalty into the second half put clear water between the sides and once they pulled clear there was no way back.

By the break Donegal had established a 1-7 to 0-5 lead with Geraldine Mc Laughlin’s goal proving crucial. Tyrone had several chances, the best of those falling to Cathy Donnelly who drilled the ball inches wide.  Gemma Begley worked hard to keep Tyrone in the tie but when Barrett found the net from that penalty Tyrone were under pressure.

The Red Hand defence was stretched-Neamh Woods, Christiane Hunter and Karen Quinn worked hard while up front life was difficult too as at times as Donegal had as many as eleven players behind the ball leaving little room for manoeuvre.

It was a disappointing day for Tyrone who will now await the qualifying draw with interest. They have plenty of positives to take from this outing but they will know that they have to be more clinical and effective up front.
