Tyrone’s Health & Well Being Sub-committee is calling on young people from the ages of 8-16 years to design a poster that will show what health and well being in the GAA means to them. The competition is open until May 19th. Full details are available on www.tyronegaa.ie/health-Wellbeing .

Launching the Competition Ciaran McLaughlin, who has recently been appointed of Chairperson of the new GAA National Health and Well Being Committee, said “Health and Well being is at the core of the GAA. As an organisation we naturally bring people together which has social benefits, participation in our games bring physical health benefits for our players, we promote positive mental health and emotional well being through continually provide training and information for our clubs.

We hope this competition will help our young people of Tyrone think about how the GAA is helping their health and Well being and we look forward to seeing what comes in”

Tyrone is the first County in Ireland to have a sub-committee that works towards promoting positive health and well being within its clubs and communities. Now in its second year, the sub-committee is supporting clubs on various issues and have been able to signpost to appropriate support/advice where necessary. During the 2013/14 County convention clubs were asked to prioritise areas for the subgroup. There was a positive response from clubs that resulted in the areas of Mental Health, Alcohol and Substance Misuse, Gambling and Addictions support being identified as priorities. The subgroup has an action plan in place for 2014 that sees the poster competition being an element of this.
