Tyrone put up a great display against Armagh in the Nicky Rackard Cup at Carrickmore on Saturday afternoon before eventually losing out 3-17 to 0-20.

This was a very high scoring and entertaining game between two well drilled and totally committed sides. Armagh began strongly with Moan, Gaffney and Carvill showing well in the forward line. However once Tyrone got to grips with the pace of the game, and with Damien Casey, Conor Grogan and Sean Og Grogan in fine form, they reached the break deservedly three in front on a score-line of 0-11 to 0-8.

Tyrone opened the second half scoring with an early point but were rocked back on their heels when Armagh responded immediately with a goal from the boot of Eoin Mc Guinness. The Armagh number 12 had just entered the game as a second half sub.

Kieran McKernan, Ryan Gaffney and Declan Coulter were impressive for Armagh as they began to make their greater experience tell. A Cahal Carvill sideline cut finished in the back of the net to put Armagh ahead 2-13 to 0-16 and once in front they never looked back. Damien Casey helped keep his team in touch but they found the Orchard County’s rearguard in uncompromising mood.

Carvill bagged his second goal to ensure they made it through to the semi finals courtesy of this six point win.
