Tuesday 20.10.2015
Tyrone to face Cavan in Masters semi.
This years’ Gaelic Masters All Ireland semi-final brings together two teams who met in last years’ Masters Shield Final. On that occasion Tyrone took the honours to secure their first Masters title. This year however, both teams have advanced to the premier masters’ competition having finished in the top four of the Gaelic Masters League. Tyrone’s 2015 cause has been bolstered by new blood with the inclusion of the impressive Mark Donnelly(Fintona), Kevin Gormley (Carrickmore), Brendan Sheehy(Cookstown) Richard O’Neill, Dean Molloy(Strabane), Barry Porter (Owen Roes) and Peter Loughran (Errigal Ciaran). The return of seasoned players Mark Gallagher, Stephen Lawn and Gerard Mc Williams has also added to Tyrone’s strength in depth. Brian McElroy and Barry O’Neill have been used in various positions through the league campaign demonstrating their versatility. Kieran Leonard has carved out a new role for himself between the posts whilst in front of him Tyrone’s defence boasts the resilience of Gavan Mc Elroy, Gary Mc Kenna, Paul Sweeney, Stephen Dooher, Brendan Sheehy and John Fee. Conrad Quinn and Damien Gormley have continued to control proceedings in the middle third assisted in no small way by the introduction of Richard O‘Neill and Peter Loughran at various times during the league run. Up front Conor Daly has exercised considerable influence this year feeding a lively full forward line that includes Mark Darcy, Mark Donnelly and Mickey McConomy. With the rolling substitutions rule the introduction of players at key times is so important and in this regard John Mc Kenna, Raymond Gormley, Andy Mc Sorley and Donal Mc Crossan have been vital to Tyrone’s cause this year. Tyrone travel to Truagh, Co. Monaghan this Saturday, 24th October for a 2pm throw in, seeking a place in the Gaelic Masters All Ireland Final. Guiding them along the way will be the two stalwarts of Tyrone Gaelic Masters, Eugene Bradley and Joe Leonard, two men who have given long and unselfish service to the masters’ concept in the county.
