Ulster Minor League Shield Final
Tyrone 0-8 Armagh 1-11

Armagh proved too strong for Tyrone in the final of the Ulster Minor shield, played in Crossmaglen.

A strong first-half showing by the home side was the foundation for the victory. Armagh got off to a flying start with 3 points in the opening five minutes before Shea Munroe got Tyrone on the scoresheet when he converted a 9th minute free. Eoin Duffy and Liam McGeary exchanged points at the end of the first quarter. Tyrone missed opportunities from marks to reduce the deficit and were punished as Armagh points from Diarmaid O’Rourke and Fionn Toale extended the lead.

Armagh took advantage of Fionn McHugh’s black card to tag on further points and when Eoin Duffy finished to the net, the result was inevitable.

Tyrone did stage a revival in the second period curtailing Armagh to a single point while kicking five of their own, Aodhan Quinn, Munroe, Adam Cushnahan, Lorcan McMurray and Liam McGeary all on target but the goal that they really needed never looked likely.

Both teams were reduced to 14, late in the contest, Aaron Garvey and Peter Colton picked up red for separate incidents.

Tyrone haven’t long to wait to return to action with the group stages of the Ulster championship commencing next Saturday.
