Tyrone 2-16 1-7 Antrim

When Cathair McKenna split the posts, in the 54th minute for Antrim, the teams were level at a wet Dunsilly.

However a purple patch in the closing minutes saw Tyrone hit their hosts for 2-6 without reply and run out victors by a flattering twelve points.

Tyrone had made wholesale changes to the side which comfortably defeated Derry in their opening league game. This probably was the cause of a sluggish start by Tyrone who trailed by two points at the break with Daire Keenan getting the Saffron’s goal after Tyrone failed to clear their lines in the 20th minute. Tyrone failed to take a couple of goal scoring opportunities themselves in a disappointing opening period.

Tyrone started the second half much better and scores from Brian Og McGuckin, Vincent Gormley, and Peter Colton edged them in front. Scores from substitutes Odhran Doherty and Padraic O’Connell kept the game tight as the game entered its final quarter.

Sean Og Quinn produced a crucial save from Antrim’s Jack Logan, and Tyrone regained the lead when Odhran Curran blasted over the bar with the net gaping with ten to go.

Curran did get his goal in the 58th minute after Pearse McDonald’s shot had been well saved. Minutes later McDonald finished to the net after Matthew Daly had won the kickout. Aodhan Corry kicked a couple of points  and Tyrone’s best player, Peter Colton, finished the scoring with a free.

Tyrone will now face Cavan in the semi-final at Garvaghey next weekend
