Tyrone Overcome Understrength UUJ Side

Lee Brennan received the man of the match award following this afternoon’s match against University of Ulster Jordanstown.   The Trillick man fired over seven points, six from play, during the 70 minutes.  Tyrone still have a chance of making the McKenna Cup semi final if they overcome Donegal in Healy Park on Wednesday night after they recorded a 2-17 to 1-7 win over UUJ in Carrickmore today.  UUJ scored just once after the break, a 45m free from Daire Gallagher.

Tyrone were disappointing in the opening 35 minutes and a couple of defensive slip up meant they led by just two points at the break 1-8 to 1-6.  The Tyrone goal came from Niall McKenna’s fist following a superb pass from Peter Harte.  Niall Madine hit the UUJ major after he got his hand to the ball ahead of Mickey O’Neill.  The first half points came from Lee Brennan, Peter Harte and Ronan McHugh while UUJ’s scores came from Ronan McAlinden, Ruairi McGlone and Daire Gallagher.

After the break Tyrone took complete control of the game.  Aghyaran man Ronan McHugh fired home a superb goal for the Red Hands and Brennan went on to slot another handful of points as Tyrone ran out very easy winners against a very understrength UUJ side.  UUJ might well have lost by more had Galbally man Ronan McGeary not produced a superb save from Padraig Hamsey’s goal bound shot.
