Tyrone Overpowered by Wicklow in All-Ireland Minor C Final

Tyrone entered the All-Ireland Minor C Camogie Championship Final as favourites, having enjoyed an unbeaten season and a prior three-point victory over their opponents, Wicklow. However, it was Wicklow who rose to the occasion in Kinnegad, delivering a fast and physical performance to claim a convincing win.

Playing against a strong wind in the first half, Tyrone were rocked early on by a goal from Muireann Darcy in the opening minute. Catherine Moohan responded with a point from a free, but Wicklow continued to press, adding three further scores despite the best efforts of Clara Doherty and the Tyrone defence. Moohan’s second point was Tyrone’s only other score of the half, as Wicklow, demonstrating greater determination and physicality, pulled away, with four different players on the scoresheet. Charlotte Doyle’s goal further strengthened their position.

At half-time, Wicklow led 2-6 to 0-2.

Wicklow adapted impressively when playing against the wind after the break, with Darcy again setting the tone by finding the net early on. Although Moohan added two more points for Tyrone, Darcy’s third goal effectively ended any hopes of a Red Hand revival. Substitute Katie Rose Donnelly and Emer Cunningham added further scores, with Cunningham converting a goal from a Moohan line ball. However, a Rebecca Murphy goal for Wicklow halted any Tyrone momentum, as Wicklow’s speed and strength proved decisive.

Tyrone battled to the final whistle but were ultimately second-best against a clinical Garden County side. They will hope to bounce back in next week’s Ulster Minor Shield Final.
