Tyrone Push New York All the way
Saturday 30.05.2026
Tyrone’s fine run in the Nicky Rackard Cup came to a halt in Croke Patrick when the Red Hands faced a very well drilled and highly competitive New York at Croke Park on Saturday afternoon.
It took Tyrone a while to settle but when they did they competed all over the field and reached the break four points behind 1-14 t0 1-10. The second half was every bit as competitive as the first and even though they eventually lost out 2-22 to 2-17 every man on the panel can take a lot from the the performances of the whole team this afternoon.
Early scores from Dara Walsh and AJ Willis put New York ahead but once Tyrone got to the pace of the game they narrowed the gap and after the sides swapped scores and New York moved two clear a converted penalty from Ciaran Magill had Tyrone 1-6 to 0-6 ahead.
Both sides were finding the wide open spaces of headquarters to their liking as Aidan Kelly, Shea Munroe, Kiefer Morgan and Mickey Little for Tyrone and Thomas Doyle, Bill Maher and AJ Willis for New York added to their teams’ tally.

The second half continued to be every bit as competitive as the first but by this stage New York were beginning to look the team most likely. Thomas Douglas and Tom O’Meara created and finished scoring chances to move six clear but Tyrone continued to match them in tenacity all over the field. Points from Shea Munroe and Mickey Little reduced the gap to four with eighteen minutes remaining.
Both sets of players were beginning to show signs of fatigue and a tired Tyrone team began to concede frees as the game entered the final quarter. Both sides emptied the bench but it was the New York bench that made the biggest impact. David Mangan took over free taking duties and proved extremely efficient as he stretched the gap to five.
Tyrone then won a penalty what was converted by Micky Little to bring them right back into it but within a minute New York found the net again and the gap was once more out to five.
Both sides swapped scores as the clock ticked down towards the dying minutesand when the referee blew the full time whistle it was New York who claimed the title on a final score of 2-22 to 2-17.
